Extra Slots Rarity 11

Duty officers can be sent out on assignments which take anywhere between 15 minutes to 5 days (real time, not gameplay time). Assignments require a variety of input items, including a selection of available duty officers/civilians, energy credits, commodities, Tribbles, etc. At the end of the assignment, players may be awarded with combinations of XP, duty officers/civilians, energy credits, commodities, Tribbles, ship/personal equipments, etc. - depending on the outcome of the assignment.

Slots

The base Rarity 10 Crimson Kadachi Lion II, for example, pales in comparison to the Rarity 11 Nargacuga Baleful Night as a pierce heavy bowgun despite its jewel slot due to extra affinity. If getting 100+ res rings with good life and dex, you can get cheaper rings and use rares in the helmet and boot slots with some res in order to make up for it. Using a rare in the boot slot combined with cheaper rings can reduce the price of the build by as much as 5 ex, but loses out on quite a bit of tankyness.

By default there can be a maximum of 20 assignments running at the same time.[1] Up to three additional assignment slots can be purchased from the Fleet Embassy, once they have been unlocked.

Assignments can be split into two major categories:

  • Current Map Assignments, which refresh every 4 hours starting at midnight GMT, and
  • Personal Assignments, which refresh every hour at 25m after the hour.

The time remaining for a refresh can be seen on the bottom left of your Assignments window.

Assignment Rarity[edit edit source]

Common

  • Lowest rewards per mission time and input items

Uncommon

  • Higher rewards for same/similar inputs as common assignments
  • Can be identified by a Green tint on the assignment snapshot and One Bar on the lower left corner

Rare

  • Very high rewards for the same/similar inputs as other assignments
  • Can be identified by a Blue tint on the assignment snapshot and Two Bars on the lower left corner

Very Rare

  • Highest rewards for the same/similar inputs as other assignments
  • Can be identified by a Purple tint on the assignment snapshot and Three Bars on the lower left corner
Note that the rarity of the duty officer assignments reflects the chance to spawn in assignments list but not always how frequently/often is received .
For example Assignment: Prepare Baked Tribble for Captain has a Common rarity with 1h duration but the chance to receive that assignment again is approximately after 2 days which makes it rare somehow (maybe because of the reward type/quality too).
So the assignments may have an internal server clock/cool-down. After the cooldown is completed you have a chance (Common, Rare, or Very rare) to receive that assignment again. (of course if you are in the same system-assignment-giver).
In other words, you won't receive every hour (or 2 for sector refresh) the same Common assignment.

  2. The most frequently seen assignments that require energy credits are the uncommon “Purchase Prototype” assignments.
  3. Many Exploration assignments awarding significant (100+) base CXP on Success require at least one duty officer with the Specialization: Research Lab Scientist to be slotted.

How To Augment Master Rank Weapons

Fill Up Master Rank Weapon Augment Slots

The way you can augment weapons & armor has been changed in Iceborne. It will now cost a number of slot & will fill these up when you augment your weapon.

Augmentation Slots Per Weapon Rarity

Rarity No. Of Slots
Rarity 10 5 Slots
Rarity 11 4 Slots
Rarity 12 3 Slots

Only Fully Upgraded Weapons Can Be Augmented

The same way it works in MHW, augmentation on weapons can only be done when they are fully upgraded. This means having the weapon at the end of its weapon tree.

Augmentations Now Have Augment Slot Cost

In Iceborne, all available augmentations will now have slot costs. The more augment slots your weapons have, the more augmentations you can put into it.

Master Rank Weapon Augment Slot Costs

Health Regen Slightly recovers health when damaging monsters 3
Slot Upgrade Adds a Level 1 slot into weapon 3

Defense Increase Defense is slightly increased with chance of reducing damage 1
Element/Status Effect Up Slightly increases power of elements & status effects 1

Extra Slots Adds 2 More Augment Slots

When you augment your weapon with Extra Slots, you'll get 2 additional augment slots. This doesn't fill up any augment slot but costs rare materials & some Research Points.

- Reduces need to use recovery items, therefore increasing time to attack monsters
Affinity Increase
★★・
- Increases affinity by 10%
- 2nd augment increases by 5%
- Best for weapons with low affinity
Attack Increase
★★・
- Increases weapon attack power
- Increase depends on weapon type
- Recommended for weapons with high affinity
Slot Upgrade
★・・
- Adds 1 decoration slot
- Best for weapons lacking slots
Defense Increase
★・・
- Increases defense and has chance to reduce damage
- Low priority augment as defense should be armor-focused

Focus On Health & Affinity Augments

It's best to augment weapons with Health Regen & Affinity Increase as these work make hunting more efficient. If your chosen weapon already has a high affinity rate, it's best to use Attack Increase instead.

Choosing Between Attack Or Affinity Increase

Prioritize Weapons With Low Affinity

Having a weapon with high affinity will increase your chance of dealing critical hits & doing heavy damage so it's best to raise the affinity rate of your weapons. However, note that Affinity Increase augments have diminishing returns.

Use Attack Increase With High Affinity Weapons

If your weapon of choice already has a high affinity or cannot be augmented with Health Regen, you can opt to augment it with Attack Increase. This will strengthen your raw attack stat, making each hit more powerful!
